Stories From Hans Andersen - Edmund Dulac was one of the central illustrators of the Edwardian period, he remained true to the medium of watercolor, and the critics were unanimous in their praise. He was recognized as an illustrator of first rank, a master of the fantastic and exotic, and "a dreamer of extraordinary dreams". Among the 28 color plates in this volume are several of the artists most loved and celebrated illustrations: "The Little Mermaid," "The Emperor"s New Clothes" and "The Princess and the Pea".

Dulac was a French artist who moved to England in 1905, becoming a citizen in 1912. He was primarily a book illustrator, mostly working on fairy tales and legends. In addition, he was a caricaturist, portraitist, sculptor, and designer. Of all the great book illustrators, Dulac remained the most active throughout his life.

Stories From Hans Andersen - Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875), Danish author and poet, wrote many poems, plays, stories and travel essays, but is best known for his fairy tales of which there are over one hundred and fifty, published in numerous collections during his life and many still in print today.
Born on 2 April, 1805 in Odense, on the Danish island of Funen, Denmark, he was the only son of washerwoman Anna Maria Andersdatter (d.1833) and shoemaker Hans Andersen (d.1816).
